Artisan hand-weaving natural coconut coir on a traditional loom in Southern India
Our craft

Made by hand in Southern India.

Every Theodore Magnus doormat is hand-tufted from natural coconut coir by skilled artisans — a craft refined over generations.

The makers

Real hands, real craft.

We partner with skilled artisans in Southern India — a region with a centuries-old coir tradition — to create doormats that honor traditional craftsmanship while meeting the modern home's desire for design and durability. Every mat is made by hand, not by machine, using methods passed down through generations.

Coconut husks and hand-spun natural coir fibre
The material

It starts with the coconut.

Coir is the natural fiber found between a coconut's shell and its outer husk — a renewable byproduct of the coconut harvest. The husks are hand-collected, soaked in water to soften the fibers, then separated, cleaned, and hand-spun into strong, durable coir yarn.

No trees are cut and no land is cleared. It's a material the region has worked with for centuries.

Dyed with eco-friendly dyes, backed with anti-slip vinyl, and rolled for low-impact shipping.

Artisan hand-tufting a thick natural coir doormat
Built to last

Hand-tufted, thick, and made to endure.

Because each mat is hand-tufted rather than machine-pressed, the coir is packed dense and thick — the kind of surface that actually scrapes shoes clean and holds up to years of foot traffic.

It's finished with eco-friendly dyes and an anti-slip backing, then rolled for low-impact shipping. Craftsmanship you can feel underfoot.

We value the human hands behind every product. Every mat carries the mark of the artisan who made it.
